What is the requirement around caseloads (new cases, follow up and total number of appointments each year) for both full-time and part-time?

The recommended caseload for a full-time:

  • Social Prescribing Link Worker: 200-250 annually. This means 200-250 different people seen by one full-time SPLW within a year.

  • Care Coordinator: ‘Caseloads should be determined locally, based on the complexity of cases and the support needs of people and their carers. Care co-ordinators should discuss caseload and any concerns around it with their supervisor(s).’ Workforce Development Framework 5.1 Caseload

  • Health & Wellbeing Coach: ‘Caseloads should be determined based on the complexity of cases, the support needs of the individual and the capacity and experience of the HWBC. HWBCs should discuss caseloads and any concerns around it with their supervisor(s). When determining caseloads employers should be mindful of the level of training/experience the coach has – new coaches may need more support/time to manage caseloads.’ Workforce Development Framework 5.1 Caseloads

What is the role of Integrated Care Systems & Integrated Care Boards, and what does this mean for the frontline?

As of the 1st July 2022, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) have been established as statutory bodies, following approval of The Health and Care Act 2022. You can read more from the Kings Fund here.

  • Integrated Care System (ICS): ICSs will bring together NHS, local authority and third sector bodies to deliver more integrated care for patients, in line with the goals in the NHS LTP.

  • Integrated Care Board (ICB): ICBs are statutory organisations aimed at improving population health through bringing the NHS together locally as an anchor organisation with shared strategic priorities.

  • Integrated Care Partnership (ICP): ICPs will be responsible for ICS-wide strategy and issues relating to pubic health, social care, wider determinants of health and the overall health and wellbeing of the population.
